Le magnétisme des étoiles massives : 2. Revue théorique
Stéphane Mathis (CEA, Sap)

22 mars 2010

Internal dynamics of massive magnetic rotating stars.
In this talk, I will review the different MHD processes which take place in massive star interiors. First, I will describe the MHD instabilities which act on magnetic fields in stellar radiation zones and the dynamo action in massive stars that give strong indications in favor of a fossil origin of the observed fields in this type of stars. Then, I will discuss the study of MHD turbulent relaxation processes, which are now examined in stellar interiors, to describe initial conditions for fossil magnetic fields. Finally, I will focus on describing the state of art of the modeling of the interaction between differential rotation, magnetic field, meridional circulation, and turbulence both in the case of axisymmetric and non-axisymmetric magnetic configurations (case of the oblique rotators). Observational constraints will be discussed in each part of the talk.
